Cruiser Sailing and Racing
Join the cruiser sailing community at New Quay Yacht Club, led by our Cruiser Captain, Chris Seal, who, together with the Sailing Committee, has developed an engaging programme for the season.
Annual Regattas and Racing Series
NQYC hosts several key events annually, providing a range of sailing experiences:
- Regular Midweek Series: This midweek series runs throughout the sailing season, providing consistent opportunities for sailors to develop their skills and enjoy friendly competition in the beautiful setting of Cardigan Bay.
- Keelboat Regatta: A highlight of the club’s racing calendar, this regatta brings together competitors from the local area and beyond, featuring multiple races over several days and promoting a spirit of camaraderie among participants.
- Bart’s Bash: As part of the global sailing event in memory of sailor Andrew Simpson, NQYC proudly participates in Bart’s Bash each year. This inclusive event invites sailors of all abilities to come together in support of the Andrew Simpson Foundation, adding a special community element to the club’s calendar.
In addition to these main events, NQYC holds regular club races throughout the season, allowing members to enjoy ongoing practice and friendly competition.
Race Details
All races are conducted under IRC and are open to all keelboat classes, excluding multi-hulls. Each race includes a pre-race briefing 45 minutes prior to the start, with the starting sequence following Rule 26: 5 minutes, 4 minutes, 1 minute, then start.
Getting Involved
If you’re interested in participating as a skipper or crew member, please contact Chris Seal, Cruiser Captain, via email at cruisercaptain@nqyc.club or by phone at 07765 900259. Chris will confirm start times and locations during the week leading up to each race.
Support for New Crew
New Quay Yacht Club and its cruiser owners welcome both seasoned sailors and newcomers to join the crew. We are enthusiastic about training and supporting those who wish to sail but may feel uncertain due to limited experience. Everyone starts as a beginner, and we encourage you to get involved at any level.
Life jackets and waterproofs are generally available, making it easy and affordable to get started. If you’re interested, please contact us or visit the club to introduce yourself – we look forward to seeing you on the water!
