For a small club, of less than 300 members, what we lack for in size we make up for in friendship and ability. Taking advantageous of the wonderful wind and sea conditions the club punches above it's weight producing sailors of international and national recognition.
The club was founded in 1951, initially around the infamous GP 14, and hosted and won national team racing series through the 60s under the helm of Roger Seal, Ian Willis, Douglas Williams, Caroline Fowler ....
These sailors introduced and taught their families to sail in New Quay, in Mirrors, Solos and later lasers.
These "kids" continue to represent sailing at the highest level,
most recent achievements include:
Tille James - Womens National Champion Fx49 2016
-British Sailing Team - Podium Potential Squad - 49fx
- Topper Worlds 2012 - 2nd Girl, 1st Junior and national Champion
Jonathon Price Jones - National Champion Westerly Fulmar 2015 & 2017
Phil Thomas - World Champion J111 2015
Rich Thomas - Race Management - Olympics 2012
Will Best - 1st Sydney Hobart - Navigator on board Loki - 2011
The above all gained their early confidence playing and learning in the ever changing waters of New Quay bay, free of the dangerous currents often found elsewhere in Wales. It is a safe place to bring your kids!
The Oppie Learner sessions
and work with the Cardigan Bay Watersports
continue emphasize the value of learning to treat the water with respect but simultaneously appreciating the fun it can provide whether this is on a
body / paddle board
